Last reviewed 24 October 2026. Place figures calculated by us with Astronomy Engine 2.1.19 (MIT licence), SearchLocalSolarEclipse.
The path of totality clips the far south of Spain: the Strait of Gibraltar, the Costa de la Luz and the Costa del Sol. Most of Andalucía sees only a deep partial eclipse, including Seville and Granada.

What to know
- Totality is in the late morning, with the Sun about 37–40° above the horizon. That is high enough to clear most buildings, and the heat of the day has not peaked yet.
- Length drops fast as you go east along the coast. Tarifa gets over four and a half minutes; Málaga and Nerja, near the edge of the path, get under two.
- Ceuta, the Spanish city on the African side of the Strait, gets close to five minutes, more than anywhere on the Spanish mainland in our list.
- Seville and Granada are outside the path. Over 98% of the Sun is covered there, but the sky does not go dark and you need glasses the whole time.
Spain is in the middle of three central eclipses in three years: the total eclipse of 12 August 2026 crossed the north of the country in the evening, with the Sun low, and an annular eclipse crosses most of Andalucía shortly before sunset on 26 January 2028, with about seven minutes of ring in Seville.
Eye safety. Use eclipse glasses that meet ISO 12312-2 for every partial phase. Take them off only when the Sun is completely covered, and put them back on as soon as it reappears. How to tell if your glasses are safe.
