About Worth Going Out
Eclipses and meteor showers are easy to read about and hard to plan for. Hype is everywhere, and the facts that decide a trip, such as how long it lasts where you are, how bright the Moon is, whether you are on the right side of the path, are scattered or missing. We put them in one place and say plainly whether it is worth going out.

What we do
- We calculate what each place gets from a total solar eclipse and publish the numbers with the test behind them.
- We rate meteor showers Go, Maybe or Skip with a public rule.
- We correct myths, such as calling the 2027 eclipse the longest of the century, which it is not.
- We say what we have not checked.
How we make our numbers has the method, and each page lists its sources.
Who is behind it
Worth Going Out is an independent website written and run by one small team. We are not astronomers by profession. That is why we only publish numbers we can calculate or trace to a published source, and why we show our working. Text is drafted with an AI assistant and checked against sources before publishing; see the editorial policy.
How we earn
Some pages may link to tours, equipment or other products. If you buy through one of those links we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Every such link is marked, and the recommendation comes first, not the commission. Details are in the affiliate disclosure.
